Chapter History
Thunderbird Chapter #2102 was chartered August 26, 1930 with 17 members. The Thunderbird name was chosen from among the many names submitted by the members. The symbolism associated with the Thunderbird is that its head should always face east. We currently have one original Charter member of the Chapter who is still active. The members were young and made the Children of the Confederacy Little Colonels Chapter a priority.
Chapter Activities
We always participate in Confederate Memorial Day Services in April at the UDC Monument in Wesley Bolin Plaza in Phoenix. We continue to participate in the Reenactment at Picacho Peak. We support Pioneer Cemetery in Phoenix and continue to represent UDC at the Memorial Day services in May. We participated in purchasing and dedicating 15 Confederate crosses to mark Confederate graves in Pioneer Cemetery. We donate funds and clothing items to the Phoenix Rescue Mission. We also were able to donate over $300 worth of toys to the mission at Christmas. We remember our veterans by sending Easter cards, Christmas stockings, thank you cards for Memorial Day, valentines, or individual birthday cards. Chapter members have attended General Convention for the past several years. We support the Division Scholar Fund with raffles and individual donations. We have sponsored applicants for General Scholarships and have had several awarded to descendents of our members. We have entertained General Officers who have visited.
